AVERAGE FIRST-AUDIT SCORE ACROSS MACBICK CLIENT LABS

What Is the Lab BioScore?

Lab BioScore is a structured, evidence-based scoring system developed by MacBick Labs and Interiors to evaluate the operational health of any research or clinical laboratory. Every lab receives a score from 0 to 100, broken down across five weighted pillars. The score isn’t a judgment — it’s a diagnostic. A Lab BioScore audit tells you precisely what’s working, what’s costing you money, and what risks are hiding in plain sight.

Frequently Asked Questions About Lab BioScore

What is Lab BioScore?

Lab BioScore is MacBick’s proprietary 100-point laboratory assessment framework. It evaluates research, clinical, educational, and commercial laboratories across five key performance pillars:

– Space & Layout
– Equipment Calibration
– Energy Efficiency
– Safety & Compliance
– Workflow Intelligence

The assessment generates a composite score that enables laboratories to benchmark their performance and identify opportunities for improvement.

A Lab BioScore-rated laboratory is a facility that has completed a formal Lab BioScore assessment conducted by MacBick. Following the audit, the laboratory receives a detailed report, a composite performance score, and prioritized recommendations designed to improve safety, efficiency, compliance, and operational performance.

Lab BioScore is calculated using a structured assessment framework consisting of 47 evaluation checkpoints distributed across five performance pillars. Each pillar is scored on a scale of 0–20, and the scores are combined to produce a final score out of 100. Each pillar contributes equally to the overall score.

A higher Lab BioScore indicates stronger overall laboratory performance.

71–100: Well-functioning laboratory that meets or exceeds best-practice benchmarks
41–70: Moderate performance with identified opportunities for improvement
0–40: Significant operational, safety, or efficiency gaps requiring systematic attention

On average, laboratories score 42 on their first MacBick audit. The score is designed to serve as a benchmark for continuous improvement rather than a simple pass-or-fail assessment.

A standard Lab BioScore audit takes approximately 2–3 weeks, from the initial intake call to the delivery of the final report. This process includes the on-site or virtual assessment, scoring, analysis, and a debrief call with the MacBick team.

Yes. MacBick offers remote Lab BioScore audits through structured video walkthroughs and document review. Remote audits evaluate the same 47 checkpoints as on-site audits and provide an equivalent assessment report. Certain physical verification steps may require photo or video documentation from the laboratory team.

How much does a Lab BioScore audit cost?

MacBick currently offers complimentary initial Lab BioScore audits for qualified laboratories through its audit program. Additional consulting, design, implementation, and follow-up assessment services are available separately. Contact MacBick to discuss eligibility and program availability.

Lab BioScore can be applied to a wide range of laboratory environments, including:

– Research and university laboratories
– Biotechnology and pharmaceutical laboratories
– Clinical and diagnostic laboratories
– K–12 and educational science laboratories
– Government and public-sector research facilities

The assessment framework is adapted to the laboratory’s function, size, and operational requirements.

A standard inspection checks for compliance against a regulatory threshold—pass or fail. Lab BioScore is a continuous performance measurement system. It does not only identify violations; it quantifies operational performance, efficiency gaps, and missed optimization opportunities that regulatory inspections typically do not capture.

Upon completion of the assessment, you will receive a comprehensive Lab BioScore Report that includes:

– Your overall Lab BioScore
– A breakdown of scores across all five performance pillars
– Supporting observations and assessment findings
– Prioritized recommendations for improvement

Laboratories may use the report independently or engage MacBick for consulting, design, and implementation support.

MacBick recommends conducting a baseline Lab BioScore audit and repeating the assessment annually, or whenever significant changes occur to laboratory personnel, research scope, equipment, or physical layout. Laboratories undergoing renovation or compliance review often use Lab BioScore as a pre- and post-assessment tool. Regular assessments help track progress and support continuous improvement.
